
H-E-B Supplier Food Safety
H-E-B is an independent food retailer that operates grocery stores in the United States. H-E-B requires GFSI food safety certification for primary suppliers of raw commodities, H-E-B Own Brand manufactured food products, and suppliers of food ingredients to H-E-B Manufacturing.
Food Safety Audit Requirements for H-E-B Suppliers:
- H-E-B requires all primary suppliers of raw commodities, H-E-B Own Brand manufactured food products, and suppliers of food ingredients to H-E-B Manufacturing to achieve and maintain certification to one of the food safety management schemes recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) or equivalent.Â
- Food industry businesses who supply to H-E-B must also comply with all regulatory requirements identified in:
- The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act
- The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
- All applicable USDA guidelines
- All additional federal, state and local requirements as applicable

Right to AuditÂ
H-E-B may, at H-E-B’s request and expense, visit and audit all plant locations which manufacture any of the Products or any components thereof. Vendor shall maintain copies of relevant records relating to the Production and storage of the Products and packaging materials and make these records available for H-E-B’s inspection during regular business hours.
Supply Chain Security
H-E-B is participating in the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT). H-E-B requires that its vendors and all parties involved in the supply chain conduct a detailed review of their security procedures, develop a CTPAT action plan for the services that they render pursuant to the Agreement for exports and imports into the United States and become a CTPAT partner with CBP.
